Overview

Cabin by the Lake is a 3D adult sandbox adventure for players who enjoy slow-building relationship stories with a mysterious edge. The tone stays grounded and character-focused rather than played for laughs.

Story

You return to a childhood reunion with girls you once knew and drifted apart from, only to find things not going as expected. Given an unexplained chance to try again, you start reliving the reunion with the ability to steer how each relationship unfolds. The repeating nature of the event, and the reasons the past keeps shifting, remain part of the mystery you're meant to unravel.

Gameplay

Each day follows a schedule of locations and characters, where choices during conversations and encounters shape how individual relationships grow over time. Progress is tracked across a cast of women who each respond differently depending on your decisions, with scenes that build gradually rather than unlocking all at once. The loop centers on repeated visits to the same setting, using knowledge from earlier attempts to change outcomes on later ones.

Features

  • Animated 3D scenes with a consistent cast across a shared timeline
  • Multiple relationship paths that develop independently of one another
  • A cabin and lake setting that stays central to every storyline
  • Sandbox-style day structure with recurring characters and locations

Changelog

v0.64b

  • Now, as for actual content, it's all along a fairly linear path. You can talk to Jenny, Carla and Haily. And let me tell you, the Haily one did not go in the direction I was expecting!
  • It's a little hard to really make a big deal out of them because normally I'm talking about context and locations and such... but these aren't exactly hidden. Is this what development is like for regular VN devs?
  • Still, I did also go back and up the stakes of some older scenes. Something else I'm not really used too. I get the feeling I'll be revisiting and tweaking these scenes a bunch. They HAVE to be good and I'm trying to communicate some rather subtle things, but I also don't want to bloat things or shorten things unnecessarily.
  • And knowing that I'll be coming back to them is a bit of a weight off my mind. I wish I could make them perfect to start with, but I don't know the shape of every piece (even if I know the picture they make) until I've finished. So making sure everything fits together... that's the trick.
